This is my first blog post as an author. As I write, I pause a moment because I am not used to that particular label going along with my name. My first children’s book, Magic Pajamas, was recently published, and I am waiting for the carton of books to arrive at my front door any day now. I hung posters in stores and various businesses around town this week, advertising my upcoming book signing at the local book store. I started an LLC, purchased business cards, set up my author website, all with the hopes that this little, simple, rhyming story will resonate with people, and they’ll want to share it with the young people they love.
That is why I wrote it in the first place. I wrote the story to share with my own children, pure and simple, because they inspired me with their wide-eyed wonder at the world they were discovering. I wanted to create something that celebrated their boundless imaginations, and took them on a journey to places far away and fantastic.
My children are now grown, and this book that started as a poem written on the computer in the basement while my babies slept—written for the sheer joy of it—has taken on a life of its own. It has a number and a barcode, a publisher and illustrator, colorful whimsical illustrations, and will make its debut in the world this week. I hope it makes its readers smile, and the children who hear it dream of where they’d like to go in their own magic pajamas. Sweet dreams!
Beautiful blog and reflection! So proud of you Laura.
Congratulations! We want to order your book. By the way, I was the first to wear pajamas at Mill Creek and was teased with great delight! They were “magic “ too. Tell Phil that we might want to change the title of our forthcoming book to. ‘Ten MAGIC Seconds with God.” Ha! Have a joyful and gentle day. Brad
